- English common name is mallow flower from mother plant Malva sylvestris
- Contains mucilages and anthocyanin pigments.
- Used for irritation of the mouth and throat accompanied by dry cough. Also used for mild gastrointestinal complaints.
- The drug consists of a flower with a five-part calyx and five-part corolla. The corolla lobes are deeply notched and wedge-shaped at the base.
- It is listed in the pharmacopoeia.
- In pulverized drug under the microscope we can see:
- Very distinctive pollen grains with spiny exine
- Unicellular covering trichomes forming stellate clusters
- In the calyx, covering trichomes appear in tuft-like coils
- Multicellular glandular trichomes shaped like small clubs
- Elongated mucilage cells in the mesophyll of the corolla
