English common name is peppermint herb from mother plant Mentha piperita
Contains 1–2% essential oil composed of monoterpenes such as menthol (30–55%), menthyl acetate (2.8–10%), menthone (14–32%), isomenthone (1.5–10%), 1,8-cineole (3.5–8%), menthofuran (1–8%), pulegone, limonene, carvone, and isopulegol. The drug also contains 0.7–3.8% hydroxycinnamic acids (rosmarinic), 8–17% flavonoids (eriocitrin and glycosides of luteolin), and triterpenes (ursolic and oleanolic acid).
Used as a carminative and cholagogue — for symptomatic relief of digestive disorders such as dyspepsia and flatulence.
Leaves are ovate, pointed at the top, brownish-green to green. The venation can be brownish-purple. The stem is quadrangular and purple-brown. It has a characteristic aroma.
