Used as a mucilaginous remedy for dry cough and as an anti-inflammatory agent for oral inflammations. Traditionally used for poorly healing wounds and inflammatory skin conditions.
The leaf is either whole or broken, sometimes with the scape. Its color is yellow-green to brown-green, with parallel veins on the underside. The leaf blade is lanceolate, narrowing at the base into a channelled petiole with parallel veins. The underside of the leaf and veins are densely hairy. The scape is brown-green, deeply longitudinally grooved, and usually covered with hairs.

Multicellular, uniseriate covering trichomes with knee-like joints
Glandular trichomes with a several-celled head tapering to a point
