  • English common name is bogbean leaf from mother plant Menyanthes trifoliata
  • Contains secoiridoid glycosides (dihydrofoliamenthin, menthiafolin, foliamenthin, sweroside), iridoid glycosides (loganin), flavonoids (rutin, hyperoside, trifolin), triterpenes (lupeol, betulin, betulinic acid), phenolic acids (caffeic, ferulic, chlorogenic), and coumarins (scopoletin, scoparon).
  • Used as a bitter tonic (amarum) for loss of appetite and mild digestive disorders such as bloating and flatulence, and also to alleviate mild joint and muscle pain.
  • The drug consists of whole leaves or their fragments. The margin is smooth, the main vein is whitish and lightly striped. The petiole is wrinkled after drying. It is a bifacial leaf.
  • The drug is listed in the pharmacopoeia.
